TGIF (1)

TGIF is hosted by GReads.  Each week Ginger poses a question and we are invited to join in and share our thoughts!  I thought it might be fun to do (and I get to talk about myself. Bonus!)

What's your process for writing book reviews? Any tips or suggestions you would recommend to other bloggers?

I'm not the most organised person in the world and I have an awful suspicion it sometimes shows in my reviews.  Since I began actually writing reviews, I've tried to organise myself better.  As I read the majority of my books electronically, I have the option of highlighting and taking notes as I go, which I find helps me greatly - especially as I read a lot in fits and starts - having notes also helps to remind me what I've read 12 hours before.

I do try and put a little stamp of my own personality in my reviews - hopefully it helps people reading them to get to know me a little better and know where I am coming from.  And I always try and emphasise that this is my opinion only - even in books I'm not over-the-moon about I try and find positives that were either good points for me, or I think may appeal to other readers.  Of course, the point of reviews is not to convince everyone that my opinion is the most important.

When I'm reading reviews, I do like to see the synopsis of the book - but I don't want to be 'told' what the book is about throughout the review.  If I'm interested in reading the book, I will also do some research before picking it up myself.  For me, I love a little bit of humour too!
