Armchair BEA Day #2 - Best of 2012 (so far!)

Day #2 of Armchair BEA and today's topic is Best of 2012.

I thought long and hard about this one - it's hard to narrow down just a few, and 2012 is not even half over yet, but here's my Top 5 of 2012 - so far!

Partials (Partials #1) by Dan Wells
I love me a good dystopia/PA, but to be honest, I went into Partials with average expectations, only to have them completely surpassed! World-building is my number one requirement for dystopias, and Partials certainly delivered! I also liked that the romance was an exisiting one - no boy meets girl and insta-love here!

Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma
First book that ever made me cry big ole sobbing tears. Need I say more?!

This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers
I lusted after this book for months - literally. When I finally got an e-galley I read it on my laptop in one day, despite the extreme risk of retinal-scorching. And it was SO worth the wait!

Jenny Pox (The Paranormals #1) by J.L.Bryan
One of the best indie, free Kindle books I've ever read - creepy, great characters, and a storyline that just doesn't let up.

Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake
Responsible for my first ever book boy crush in the form of Cas, who is also easily one of my favourite book characters ever! Creepy, intense and a great story!

  1. I just read Partials last week! It was amazing! I'm like you with the world-building, which is why I couldn't get into a bunch of dystopians. I felt like a nerd having so much fun with Partials but it was just sooo good!

    1. World building is my biggest requirement in dystopians/PA. Otherwise I just don't feel the love!

  2. I included Anna as well. That book blew me away! I haven't read the others on your list. Clearly, I have some work to do!

I would've listed Forbidden if I had read it this year too O_O but I read it last so...And I haven't read the others but I am DYING to, specially Anna Dressed in Blood :'(

And completely agree with you...I actually haven't been able to read the last 19 pages of the book before the Epilogue :/ and I was a mess after reading that book...for like a week or two...

    1. LOL! Honestly, I never thought a book could make me sob like a baby! I went straight out and bought all the other books of Tabitha's that I could find, and I read one last week (A Note of Madness) - and it's just as intense as Forbidden.

  9. So many great books, so little time to read them. *le sigh*

I loved Forbidden. I legit sobbed for hours after I finished and had to put it down a few times while reading it because I couldn't even see the page. It's stuck with me ever since, too.

I've heard great things about Anna Dressed in Blood and Partials, and really want to read This Is Not a Test.

I hope you have a great BEA-filled week!

  12. YES YES YES YES!!! I am seriously thrilled that Forbidden is on someone's list. Seriously excited! I read that book last year and thought it was ahMAYzing. It made me all squishy and uncomfortable and angry and huzzah. I was emotionally drained after the experience. I'm glad to see it get further attention.

    Cheers and happy A-BEAing.

  18. I'm currently reading Partials and I have been SUCKED IN. In fact, I plan to finish it today. It is killing the world-building - so impressed and so entertained! YAY for Jenny Pox! Gosh, that entire series is ridiculously epic. :) I cannot wait to read This is Not a Test!

  19. LOL I was here two days ago, but I forgot to hit publish! Gah! I think I may read Forbidden since it's one of your top five. I may have to hit you up on Twitter to ask a few questions first. :-)

  20. What an awesome list! I didn't know This is Not a Test was available as an eGalley! I've been pining over that book for ages. I'm so glad to hear it made your best of list!

And I really have to read Anna Dressed in Blood.

Great picks for 2012! Hope you're having an awesome ABEA! :)
