Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Series I Haven't Finished

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. I heart lists!

My Top Ten Unfinished Series - I have a very bad habit of buying a whole series before I've even read the first book, just based on the synopsis, but I've been very lucky in that most of the series I do this with I actually do like. These are all series that I either own in full or intend to buy the remaining books asap.

1) The Zombie Fallout series by Mark Tufo
Zombie Fallout - read
Zombie Fallout 2 - read
Zombie Fallout 3 - read
Zombie Fallout 4 - owned
Zombie Fallout 5 - owned

I've read books 1 and 2 twice, and book 3, but I've never gotten to books 4 and 5 - they haunt me every day!

2) The Autumn series by David Moody
The first three books were great, and then I got distracted by many other zombie series.....

3) The Deadlocked series by A.R. Wise
Deadlocked - read
Deadlocked 2 - read
Deadlocked 3 - owned
Deadlocked 4 - owned
Deadlocked 5 - owned

I love this series, and I'll be reading the next book very soon - promise!

4) The Joe Ledger series by Jonathan Maberry
Patient Zero - read
The Dragon Factory - read
The King of Plagues - wishlist
Assassin's Code - wishlist
Extinction Machine (expected April 2013) - wishlist
Code Z (expected April 2014) - wishlist

With the fourth book being published earlier this year, and books 5 and 6 coming out in the next two years, plus a whole bunch of 'in between' stories, the fact that I loved the first two books hasn't gotten me anywhere near to being up-to-date on the series. I need to re-read the first two again, and then I'll be set!

5) The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon
Outlander - read
Dragonfly in Amber - read
Voyager - read
Drums of Autumn - 1/3 read
The Fiery Cross - owned
A Breath of Snow and Ashes - owned
An Echo in the Bone - owned

I own the whole series, but I've only read books 1, 2, 3 and part of 4 - and now if I wanted to finish the series I'd have to re-read the whole lot and they are all so long it's completely overwhelming....

6) The As the World Dies trilogy by Rhiannon Frater
The First Days - read
Fighting to Survive - owned
Siege - owned
As the World Dies Untold Tales Vol. 1 - owned
As the World Dies Untold Tales Vol. 2 - owned

THIS bugs me no end - I've read book one twice, and I'm making a promise RIGHT now, that I'll finish the series by the end of 2012!

7) The Forest of Hands and Teeth trilogy by Carrie Ryan
The Forest of Hands and Teeth - read
The Dead-Tossed Waves - owned
The Dark and Hollow Places - owned

After the first book left me completely underwhelmed, I put books 2 and 3 to the back of my bookshelf and tried to convince myself they weren't really there.  But I've bought them, so I will read them...eventually.

8) The Paranormals trilogy by J.L. Bryan
Jenny Pox - read
Tommy Nightmare - owned
Alexander Death - owned

Another one I'm ashamed to admit to - I loved Jenny Pox, and I have the next two books on my Kindle, but still haven't got to them.

9) The Strain Trilogy by Guillermo del Toro & Chuck Hogan
The Strain - read
The Fall - owned
The Night Eternal - owned

I really enjoyed book one on audio, then the narrator changed for book two which completely threw me off.  But I will go back to them because the first one was deliciously creepy.

10) The Morningstar Strain by Z.A. Recht
Plague of the Dead  - read
Thunder and Ashes - read
Survivors - owned

I read the first two books in the series before I learnt that the author had passed away. More than two years after his death, the third book was released after being finished by Thom Brannan. I'm planning on re-reading the first two and reading the third in the next few weeks.

So, that's my list of unfinished series - and now I want to go and finish them all!  Which series are lurking on your shelves unfinished?  Have you finished any of these series?

  1. I loved the Forest of Hands and Teeth series, and I thought it got better especially the third and last book which is my favorite in this series. I hope you enjoy all of these Kat.x

    1. I've heard that the third book is the best so maybe I just need to put the first one behind me and get to it!

    2. that series is the best!!!

    3. and yes third book is by far the best.

  2. Awesome Top Ten! I just finished Deadlocked last night and it totally caught me off guard with just how freakin' good it was for such a short story...a lot of depth and emotion and chaos in 54 pages...and the ending, OMG...loved it! I've put Autumn, Patient Zero, The Strain, and Plague of the Dead on my TBR list...the other series, I either own the first book (really need to read Zombie Fallout next) or have them on my list already. Thanks so much for sharing these...can't wait to dive into these worlds! :)

    1. Deadlocked is awesome - I didn't believe so much could be fit so well into a short story!

You must read Zombie Fallout, it's my favourite zombie book ever!

    2. I just started Zombie Fallout and have already laughed myself silly several times. I especially liked the whole 'someone's licking my peephole' scene. I'm still giggling over that one! lol It's definitely been a great read so far and I can't wait to see what happens next!

    3. I'm so glad you're enjoying it! The one liners made it unforgettable for me1

  3. I loved the As The World Dies series, it was so awesome! You definitely need to finish that one. I'm also working on the Jenny Pox series, loving it so far! Just need to read the third book, then get the 4th when it comes out :)

    1. I know I know! I really want to, but I keep getting sidetracked by other things. Soon!

I loved Jenny Pox, why I still haven't read the others I've got no idea :-D

  4. Oooh, I like the way you set this post up. Why didn't I do it this way?

I haven't read any of these except The Forest of Hands and Teeth, of which I read the first two. God, I hate them. GRAAAAR.

    So many zombies!

    1. You know where the zombies are at ;-)

This post took me forever to set up - I nearly scrapped it all but I love seeing all the covers in a row.

The problem I had with TFoHaT was that I couldn't even bring myself to HATE Mary. I can like a book if I hate a character, but not if I just don't care a fig!

  5. Okay, I have so much to say because I love me some of the zombie/horror genre! The Deadlocked Series is on that ever-growing TBR list as is Patient Zero (which I didn't even know was part of a series!). So, I read The Strain and wasn't a huge fan, however, I am willing to give the audio version a shot. Btw, don't you just hate it when they switch up readers on you (especially when the original rocked it out)!?

::Sigh:: The Morningstar Strain Series. Where do I even begin? I LOVED the first two books. Like, completely adored them. They sort of introduced me to the whole zombie-book genre. There is and always will be a soft spot in my heart for them. But the third... okay, I knew it wouldn't be the same. It's a different author writing. It get that. But man, it felt like someone hijacked the names of the characters and created totally NEW personas from them. There's like no action until the very end and the finale was so damn ambiguous. ::Huffs:: Let's just say I won't get into it and I'll let you make your own decisions about what you think of it. Suffice it to say, I was left very unsatisfied. I feel like this book is the Indiana Jones 4 of The Morningstar Strain Series for me. It doesn't belong and it doesn't exist anymore. :(

Also, have you read Jesse Petersen's Married With Zombies series? Sooo funny and really good!

    1. I love Jonathan Maberry - he's one of the authors that I hold personally responsible for my zombie obsession. The narrator of The Strain was what made it for me so when I started listening to the second book I had to stop because it was distracting me so much. Such a shame.

I'll go into the third book of the Morningstar Strain with no expectations, I find that helps me not get so upset if it doesn't work out. At worst, I'll just wipe it from my memory and pretend it was an open-ended two book series!

I haven't read Married with Zombies, but it's certainly on my wishlist!

  6. I can't wait to read Moody's Autumn series! I have now read the first two Hater books and I love how he deals with gore and action! Get on these series girl!

    1. Too many books, not enough time! Soon, grasshoppper, soon!

  7. The only one of your list that I have is As The World Dies Trilogy by Rhiannon Frater. I have the books on AUDIO! I can't wait to start them! I still need to purchase the Tales companion books to this trilogy. Hopefully soon. I will read ANYTHING she writes! She's Brilliant! I'm going to join the Fraterfest Read-a-thon (10-5 to 10-8) hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer http://nblo.gs/Clpcu So, I can FINALLY dive-into this series! About time! It's been on my to-read-list for far too loooong as it is.

    1. I love Rhiannon Frater, and I'll be interested to hear what you think of the audio version, I think they'd be awesome!

  8. I have seen the Outlander books on a number of these lists! It is one series that I have managed to keep up with, but I have a whole heap of series that I can't say the same for!

    1. I am in awe - I fully intended to read the whole series but I got distracted by so many other books. One day!

  9. I love this list. I am going to have to look into a lot of these series. I didn't know there were untold tales to Rhiannon's As the World Dies series! Damn. I need those.

    1. I love 'Untold Tales' of books that I loved, so once I've finished the series (THIS YEAR!), I'm going to read those too!
