Top Ten Tuesday: 2013 Bookish Goals

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. I heart lists!

OK, bookish goals for 2013 - I've been thinking about these for a while, because I want to enjoy this year!

* Read 150 books - I read 176 last year so I know I can definitely do it!

* Read 60,000 - I read over 50,000 pages this year, and I hope aiming for 60,000 will help me get through some long books!

* Read the first three books of the A Song of Fire and Ice series by George R.R. Martin - I have a box set of this series, and I have a plan to read one every three months or so - totally doable (right?!)

* Listen to more audiobooks - I love audiobooks but I only listened to 8 in 2012 - plus they have the added bonus of reading when I can't read (if that makes any sense).

* Balance review / TBR books - I got so burnt out on review books in 2012 that I practically read none in the last quarter of 2012 - I'm hoping a better balance will stop me from feeling like reading is a chore and I'll also get to read more new / upcoming releases.

* Read outside in Summer - for the first time in five years I'm living somewhere with a GARDEN - I'm going to re-embrace outdoor reading!

* Schedule and organise - I need to be more organised with what I need / want to be reading, and scheduling - at one stage last year I was nearly four weeks (!) ahead, and then I let it slip back to the stage of writing posts on the day (*ahem* like now). And cross-posting, I spent a whole day last weekend cross-posting reviews I'd missed - some of them were more than a year old!

* Read more classics - I'm not a big classics reader, but I've liked or loved every one that I've read - why do I put these off?!

* Finish some series - I have 70, yes 70, series 'in progress' right now - not counting the series graveyard. I want to finish off at least 5 of them this year!

* Visit more blogs, more often!  I'm not terrible at commenting, but I know I could do better, plus I need to reply to comments more often!

What are your Bookish Goals for 2013?

  1. Audio, woo!

Yes to review vs. TBR, though I'm aiming for like 25% TBR. Gotta start somewhere, right? Though, I have like 6 review books that I failed last year, and I'm going to clean those out first, because the guilt is crushing me.

I would LOVE to read outside, but I am petrified of bees, so that's pretty much impossible for me. Also, I tend to end up napping in the sun.

Ugh, I've never been ahead more than a couple of days. Wahhhh!

We all wish we read more classics, I think.

Series! That's on my list too.

    Yup, blog visiting too.

  2. Your 50,000 pages could probably almost be met with just the Game of Thrones books! Ha! I really need to read more classics, well some classics, because I haven't read any O.O Great post, I hope you meet ALL the goals :)

    1. Ah you are onto my cunning plan! Shame they are not fast reads *sigh*.

  3. Great list! I need to read more of my own books too, so am going to try alternating review books with my TBR titles and see if that works. I'm working on being more organized, as scheduling posts in advance really takes the pressure off! Good luck!

    1. I did alternating for a while last year, and it worked, but then I started alternating 2 TBR, 1 review, 3 TBR...and all those review books HAUNT me!

  4. 60,000 pages is nearly triple what I read last year, haha! Reading some classics is definitely something I want to do as well this year. Good luck!

  5. These are some wonderful goals, Kat! I wish you luck on the first three books in Songs of Fire and Ice. I got through the first two and can't make myself get through the rest of them. They took me a month each. :(

    1. Ugh, a month! But I actually planned to take 6-8 weeks on each one - slow and steady.....*breathe* LOL

    1. It's the waiting - I wait so long for the next book to come out I forget, OR I can't remember the first one and can't be bothered re-reading LOL.

  8. First off, let me just say, YOU CAN TOTALLY DO ALL THESE THINGS! YES! And my god, how have you already read like 4 books this year?! I haven't even finished one!? You are some sort of sorcerer(ess).

Seriously, lady, you are amazing and I know you can totally accomplish everything you wanna do if you just set your mind to it. All it takes is a little bit of dedication and knowing that when thing get too rough, you might need to take a step back. I look forward to awesome things in this next year. Keep on rocking!

  9. I'm completely with you on the review/TBR balance act. I felt the same way and I'm actually not taking in as much this year. I need to catch up on some that are overdue and read what I like or else it won't feel fun anymore.

Good luck with all of your goals! :)

    1. If it becomes like a chore, then it's horrible - I had that feeling a few times last year and I don't want to feel like that again!

  10. Wow, you read 176?? I'm so jealous! I wish I could read that many! My goal is 132 this year. Reading more classics and finishing series are my goals as well. Good luck on all of your goals :)

    1. ! You just gave me the best idea - classics on audio - then I can get two birds at once!

  12. Oooh, I want to listen to audiobooks too! I didnt really like it until I tried it, and only got to listen to 1 last year, so hopefully it'll be more this year. I can't believe you started 70 series! I have some to finish, but like only less than 20. So good luck with that! :))

    1. I'm a mood audio-listener. I go months without listening and then have three or four back to back - I need to be more consistent.

      Gah @ series!

  13. Four weeks ahead? That is amazing! The most I've ever been ahead is 3 days. I can't get enough of audiobooks and am looking forward to more of your reviews. Have you checked out audiojukebox? Linky here: http://audiobookjukebox.squarespace.com/

You can request free audio's to review. It's a great site.

    1. The only problem with being so far ahead was that I got slack, and now it's more like four days! I've only been on audiojukebox once, completely forgot about it - thanks for the reminder!

  14. I'm impressed with the goal of 150 books. That's really impressive. I read 103 or so last year, but this year I'm trying for less, like maybe 50. I need to make more time for writing.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on A Song of Fire and Ice series by George R.R. Martin. I read the first 3 books and loved them, but I haven't read any of the rest in the series. I avoid longer books now that I have kids. Missing out on 2 nights of sleep, or a whole week, rather than just one is bad when I have so many responsibilities.

    1. I'm seriously in awe of any mother who can also read that many books!

  15. Everyone seems to be on a classics binge this year. I'm not sure why. Whatever the reason, good luck!

  16. 70 series???? Umm, Kat, how do you manage? This is why I avoid series like the plague. I can't follow up with them. That balance between review book is on the top of my list too.

    1. This is why I'm so confused all the time ;-). I didn't even realise so many of my books were series until I made a list - it's scary!

  17. Wow, you're in the middle of 70 series? That's impressive! I want to read more classics too - I should get at least one or two in this year! Good luck on your goals!

    1. Yeah, scared the crap out of me when I realised that - I could spend the whole year just catching up on them!
