Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Resolve To Read In 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. I heart lists!

Argh this was such a hard list to make!  There are SO many books I want to read in 2013, but these are the ones that came to mind first:

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Fire and Ice #1) by George R.R. Martin - I am actually terrified of reading this book, so I'm going to take it slowly and just read a few pages a day.

Ashen Winter (Ashfall #2) by Mike Mullin - I've had this book for a long time and I keep thinking about it.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire - Love a good controversial read!

Soulless (Parasol Protectorate #1) by Gail Carriger - I've always wanted to give this series a try, and I already have the first book on my shelves, so this year is the perfect opportunity!

Zombie Fallout 3 by Mark Tufo - this is the final book in the series that I need to re-read, before I can move onto the last three!

The Dead of Night (Tomorrow #2) by John Marsden - I loved revisiting this series with the first book, so I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - I'm still ashamed I haven't read a single Jane Austen, so I'm going to start this year!

Dust & Decay and Flesh & Bone (Benny Imura #2 & #3) by Jonathan Maberry - the fourth book will be published later this year so I want to be all caught up on the series when it is released!

Cinder (Lunar Chronicles #1) by Marissa Meyer - I stalked this relentlessly from the first moment I saw it, I pre-ordered it, and then never read it!

Which books do you resolve to read this year?

  1. Pride and Prejudice is on my list too! I've been meaning to read it for the past couple of years and haven't gotten round to it, but I am definitely changing that this year. I'm definitely going to be reading Beautiful Disaster and Cinder this year too. Great list!

  2. I enjoyed the Carriger. The author refers to it as "teapunk." I listened in audio and it was great that way; I'll probably read the rest!

    1. 'Teapunk' - I love that! I might have to find a sample of the audio to try out, thanks for the tip :)

  4. I've read Beautiful Disaster. It is certainly an interesting read. Definitely not for everyone, but I enjoyed it, even though it was kind of crazy.

I'm reading Cinder right now. It is so good, and I can't imagine you won't like it.

    Happy new year!

  5. Jane Austen is high on my 2013 list, too. Pride and Prejudice is the only one I've read, but I really loved it. Soulless is one I'm sorta curious about. Game of Thrones is absolutely excellent-- I bet soon you won't be able to resist reading a hundred pages a day. :) Happy reading and happy new year!

    1. Happy New Year to you too! I'm thinking the series would take far less time to watch than read! But I'll probably watch it after reading the book.

  10. I can't wait to see what happens next in Meyer's Scarlet this year actually. Soulless is on my TBR list too for the near future. I'm much more excited about her new YA release coming though, Etiquette & Espionage! Happy reading!

  14. I have the first Jonathan Maberry book. I have been putting it off cause for some reason zombie books suck me up and make me forget the fact that dishes and laundry excists ;) Thanks for sharing your top ten! I highly suggest Beautiful Disaster.

  15. Hope you enjoy Game of Thrones - they are pretty massive and quite intimidating to start with, but I really enjoyed the first one when I read it, it eases you into the world and characters really well. Happy New Year!

    1. I've actually started it, and you're right, it's not that intimidating now I'm actually reading it. I'm such a wussy!

  16. Cinder --- YES! It's on my list too! I'm a little intimidated by the sheer volume of Game of Thrones, so for now, I'm okay with sticking to the TV show. I do, however, need to catch up on Season 2 when it comes out.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't read Pride & Prejudice either, though I probably should. Great list, lady! LOVE LOVE LOVE all the z-related picks!

  17. I'm currently experiencing Cinder via audio and it is so damn good! I love the narrator so much. She has really brought such life to the book! I plan to read the Benny Imura series this year, too! I tried A Game of Thrones. I got about 40 ages in after a few weeks. I just can't deal with reading that takes that much time. lol

    1. Several people have recommended the audio, so I'm definitely going to check it out!

It took me a while to get into R&R, but eventually I was all over it like a rash!

I don't mind long books, but long books with tiny print (like Game of Thrones) always make me antsy because I feel like I'm making no progress on them! Hence the plan to read it in bits and pieces!
