Top Ten Books I've Read So Far In 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. I heart lists!

My reading for the first half of the year has been vastly different to previous years.  I'm finding myself becoming a little bit more stingy with my five star ratings, so these books have worked HARD to make this list!

As a comparison, only 15% of my reads so far this year were five-stars (and three of those were re-reads), whereas in 2012 it was nearly 23%.  Whether I'm becoming more fussy or whether I'm reading more outside my normal zone I'm not quite sure, but it was difficult to pick my Top Ten so far!
In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters
Gemma by Meg Tilly
Croak (Croak #1) by Gina Damico
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
Ask the Passengers by A.S. King
Tribulation (Rapture Trilogy #2) by Phillip W. Simpson
Falling to Earth by Kate Southwood
Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky #2) by Veronica Rossi
All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
Prisoner B-3087 by Alan Gratz

What are your favourite reads of the year so far?

  4. I really need to read Croak soon! I bought it when Christina (A Reader of Fictions) told me she loved it but I haven't read it yet. Oh and I just grabbed In The Shadow of Blackbirds when it was super cheap on Kindle. I have seen that one on a few lists this morning so now I am very excited for it!

  9. Through The Ever Night was AMAZING! I just finished reading Roar & Liv and it broke my heart after knowing what happens in TTEN. So good and you definitely need to check it out.

  10. I have half of these books but haven't read any of them! It's always great to see books on my TBR mountain appearing on people's top ten lists (as opposed to, y'know, "terrible books" lists), helps motivate me to read them!

Though you have reminded me that I'm overdue to write my review of Under the Never Sky...

  18. OMG DUDE! You're like the 4th I saw who has In the Shadow of Blackbirds! I had the ARC - file was broken GAH and I freaking bought it since I really have to read it stat. Hmm.. Maybe I'll pick it up next, actually! You all just may have convinced me I'm missing out on awesome!

  19. This weeks list is depressing me so much. I am reading quite a bit but not any of the books that you guys are all mentioning! I feel like I'm always behind lol

  20. Totally agree with Through the Evernight! I don't even know what it's about this series that makes me love it so much. Despite...Roar, maybe? Because ever since I read the novella about Roar and Liv's story, I'm obsessed with him!

  21. I'm pretty stingy with 5-star ratings. I've only had 2 so far this year... and one of those was handed out yesterday! Still, I have a lot of love for my 4-star books as well, they just don't have that certain something that makes me say, "Wow, that was just great!"
