Book Blogger Confessions: Vlogging

Hosted by For What It's Worth and Midnyte Reader, Book Blogger Confessions is a monthly feature where bloggers confess all about blogging or bookish topics.

Vlogging. Have you ever vlogged (video blogging)? Why or why not? What do think makes for an interesting vlog? How does a book review vlog compare to a written review in your opinion? What are few of your favorite book review/author vlogs?

When I first started blogging, I NEVER intended to vlog.  I mean, seeing myself talk isn't really something I'm particularly comfortable with, but then I decided to give it just ONE try.....

I now vlog quite reguarly (about once a month) on book hauls, and I've done a combo vlog/written review for one book.  I'm actually thinking about doing some vlog reviews, but it has to be a specific book - otherwise I'm far more comfortable just typing it out.  It's really not as bad being on video as I thought it would be - sometimes I do them in one take, other times it's upwards of ten.  I'm too lazy to edit them, so it's gotta be right in one take ;)

The most important thing for me when watching vlogs is PERSONALITY - I love when people aren't afraid to be goofy and really passionate about their subject - whether its books or any other topic.  Book Haul vlogs are my personal favourite - I love seeing what books look like in real life.  I don't really watch a lot of author vlogs or book review vlogs - but if there's anyone that does them, let me know so I can check it out!

Do you vlog?  Why/why not?

  1. The most important thing to me is length. If a vlog is longer than 5 minutes, I'm probably not going to watch it, unless it's one of my absolute favorite blogs. I do like when bloggers occasionally post a short vlog because I like seeing a bit more of their personality and getting to know them a little better. But I totally understand those who aren't comfortable with it.

    1. I'm not a fan of the really long ones either, but I will watch them sometimes. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely fun to see people in 'real life'.

  2. I SO agree with personality when doing a vlog. Those tend to be my favourite to watch. I don't watch vlog reviews, but I do enjoy Book Haul, and the recent BookTube-a-thon.

  3. I have been wanting to do a vlog but think that I would HATE seeing myself. Lol. But it looks fun.

    1. I only watch mine back once before I post it. And then never again!

  4. I'm glad it ended up being something you enjoy! I am TERRIFIED of vlogging. I'd be a monotone boring mess, I swear! lol Personality is so important in vlogging, I agree. :)

    1. I was scared of it too - but it's actually really fun :)

  5. So glad to hear you're finding yourself more comfortable with vlogging! I don't think it's something I'd do, mostly cause I don't like my recorded voice, I sound like a 5 year old!

    1. Haha! When I was a kid, I hated hearing myself. Now it's not so bad - the older I get the less I seem to care!

  6. Glad to hear that you enjoy it now! I'm still too afraid to give it a go!

    1. You should! What's the worst that could happen? ;)

  7. Personality is important for sure, which is why I leave my rambly messes as they are. I tell myself it's charming. Oh, also, I've heard The Book Rat is like the queen of book vloggers, though I've not really watched any.

    1. Yeah it's totally charming! Hence why mine are also rambly messes - editing it is just not going to happen.

I think I've seen some of her vlogs....or I'm dreaming it.

  8. I really like watching book hauls :D It's so much fun to see the real blogger behind the blog and to hear them talk. I'm actually planning to do a haul vlog for the first time, but it depends on the result, haha.

  9. That's cool that you do it. I never thought I would do it either, but it was kind of fun and different. I haven't done one in a long while though. I feel like it lets the blogger connect a little bit more with their audience.

I love Misty at The Book Rat's vlogs.

    1. I don't do them regularly either, but it's fun to do them occassionally.

  10. I guess I should start doing more book haul vlogs then! I always want to do them but it's so much work, and my roots always feel grown out. LOL!

    1. Put a hat on LOL. They are a lot of work, particularly the haul ones, getting all the books lined up and remembering what they are about (this part I am particularly bad at!).

  11. I don't think I've ever seen a book review vlog. I enjoy the book haul ones because people can say why they're excited and that shows personality.

I'm way too awkward to do it myself. I just feel like the blogoshpere would get together privately and say did you see Karen's silly vlog?? lol

    1. There aren't THAT many review vlogs, and I'm usually too impatient to sit through them.

Noooooooo, of course not. You should try it, just once ;)
