I Am (Going to Be) a Series Killer

I know I'm not alone in this, but I am great at buying series and TERRIBLE at finishing them.

So I'm setting myself a six month challenge to finish nine series that I already own but have only read the first and / or second book.  I'm going to keep myself honest by updating them on my Series Madness page, and giving an update on the first Sunday of each month.

There's my list - quite an undertaking but I think I can do it!

What series do you need to finish?  Any tips for better 'series management'?

  1. I'm horrible about finishing series as well. I like finishing them but with so many books to read and new ones catching my eye all the time I just have a tough time getting around to it. (I totally blame this on book blogging, because I didn't have this issue before).

The series I really want to finish would be Sookie Stackhouse (2 left), Redwall (9 left), and Pendragon (3 left). I have a ton more but I think that's definitely the top 3.

    1. I had dozens to choose from...it's really bad. And my 'problem' only started with book blogging too!

  2. I also have a hard time on occasion to catch up with series and finishing them... so far the only series I have pending to finish is also the Delirium series by Lauren Oliver, oh and also the Pretty Little Liars one, but I lost interest in the series after book 8, so I don't know if I'll finish them or not...

    1. I have a series graveyard list because I know I'm being unrealistic in believing I'm going to finish them all...

  3. The Jenny Pox series is AMAZING. You'll love the last book.

    1. I loved the first two, so this series was going on this list without a doubt!

  4. I know exactly the feeling! Buying books is always so tempting so I've got a stack I haven't read on my bookshelf too haha Best of luck, that is a LOT of books!

    1. I started with a list of 15 series that I need to finish...I had to trim it down to be a bit more realistic lol.

  5. You have some FAB series here and I hope you love them ALL!

  6. From your list I still need to read the rest of the Jenny Pox series. I also need to read the last book of the Matched series and book 3 on of Zombie Fallout. Good luck with your list. I really should go through and make up a list like this. You've inspired me.

    1. I have a whole spreadsheet dedicated to series ... there's a scary amount on there that I've started, or that I've not even read the first book yet.

  7. I need to force myself to do this to. I've started so many series and I haven't continued them. I'm sure if I look at my Goodreads TBR, I will be shocked at all the books I'm supposed to have read. I'm going to try to finish Delirium soon because I'm going to a Lauren Oliver book event, so I hope that series is particularly good. :p

  8. I recently typed my list with series in Words and I was thinking about finishing some of them. I hope you get a lot of reading to do. Be prepared to be disappointed by the ending of Eve.. If I think about Rise, it still makes me mad.

  10. Dude!!!!! Yes. Lol. I'm super bad at this too. I need to finish the Jenny Pox series. I'm still on Tommy Nightmare. Which is super good.

  11. haha I'm pretty bad at this too, though a lot of romance series I read never ends. But I need to finish the Darkest Powers trilogy by Kelly Armstrong and catch up on I Am Number Four. I've yet to read the third book in that series.

    1. I could have included Stephanie Plum, but that's just a list all of it's own!

  12. Wow, I don't know how you can read everything BUT the last book in a trilogy. Second books always have the most intense cliffhangers! Good luck!

  13. If I made a list, I don't think it would look good. I have many unfinished series, and most of them I have read only the first book. It could be dated two years back.
Anyway, I wish you good luck finishing these series!

    1. My list is scary. I thought about publishing it, but I'm kind of ashamed of it!

  14. I am the same as you. I bet I have more series than you that I have started and never finished. Sometimes I just lose interest and don't want to go back to them! That said, I wish you a ton of luck on your challenge. It's a great idea!

    1. Wanna bet? lol.

I've learnt to 'let go' of series if I didn't feel the love. Otherwise my list would be even more insane.

  15. Oh cripes yes, I have become phenomenally bad at finishing series! (And at starting them now, too!) I blame time, and having too many books, and having too many things to do - but mostly it's because these days I need a break between books by the same author (I never used to), and then too much time goes by and I think "Crap, I can't remember what happened in the previous book/s, which means I'd have to re-read them, which I just can't think about doing right now!" Or I think "The first book was good, but I'm in no rush to read the next one. I'll buy them all and then read the whole series when I have ALL the books!" Yeah like that plan ever works out!

My list would look just as bad as yours I'm sure (I recognise quite a few of yours that would appear on my list too!), plus I have the first book (and sometimes many more!) in series that I haven't even started yet! I wish there were government grants or scholarships or dole money available so you could take a year off from life just to catch up on reading your own damn library! Wouldn't that be the bees' knees? ;)

    1. I have a thing about buying a whole series before I've even read the first book, and it's a bad, scary habit!

I just used to read a whole series back to back, but once I started blogging and reading things right before/after release and the time in between is so long, my memory fails me and then I can't deal with being confused lol.

Yeah! That would be awesome to just read for a year. I'd be so chilled by the end I would be WAY more productive at work....hehe.

  16. Go you!!

I used to be great at reading series but I just gave up on so many after being disappointed. I'll probably stick with the Cora Carmack series because I loved the 2nd book so much. (I'll be reading the novella today).

    Good luck :-)

    1. The Cora Carmack series nearly didn't make the cut - but Keeping Her is great so I'm back on the train now!

  17. I REALLY want to start doing better with series books. I'm in the middle of hundreds and it's just not cool. Start finish should mean FINISHING the damn thing, unless it goes to the graveyard, as many do, like the Eve Trilogy. It's just not very good and Matched, which, frankly, is worse. So have fun with that. I am where you are on Ashes and Delirium though!

  18. What an undertaking, Kat! I wish you all the luck with it! I'm terrible with finishing the series. I can have them unfinished for years just because there are newer and shinier books around and I can't be bothered anymore :)))
