Top Ten Character Names I Love or Top Ten Unusual Character Names

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. I heart lists!

I wasn't 100% sure how to approach this weeks' list - I didn't want to list names I didn't like in case I offended anyone, so I decided to pick names that I either immediately remember when I see the book, or names that I think are pretty.

The Memorable

Rose Justice - Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein

It might be because her name is in the title, but I'm going to have a hard time forgetting Rose's last name because of the way it connected to the storyline.

Kippy - No One Else Can Have You by Kathleen Hale

No offence to anyone that's called Kippy, but it immediately made me think of kippers.....however it's a perfect fit for both the character and the book because it's quirky and pretty unforgettable.

Lex/Lexington - Croak by Gina Damico

Lex suits Lex perfectly - and I love the imagination behind her full name.

Katniss Everdeen - The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Because this one we will NEVER FORGET.  And it's unique.

Infinite Darlene - Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan

Unforgettable character with an unforgettable name.

Penryn - Angelfall by Susan Ee

Unique and totally suits her personality.

The Pretty

Addison/Addie  - Pivot Point by Kasie West

Alina - Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Bria - Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard

Aria Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Which character names are most memorable or pretty to you?

  1. Ooh yes, I love a lot of your pretty names. Alina keeps on coming up this week. Such a lovely name.

  2. Oh, Kippy Bushman... I want to hug that poor girl! Well, if she promises not to bite me. :-)

  3. Katniss Everdeen is VERY memorable, I agree. And Kippy...really? Ha!

  4. I have noticed a ton of people listed Katniss....I haven't even read the hunger games yet lol

  5. I've got Bria too! Love it so much. Definitely agree with Penryn too. I love that one!

    Great list! My Top Ten

  6. I really enjoy clever names that have a double-meaning or ones that allude to some sort of trait that the character possesses. I think J.K. Rowling was masterful at this (think: Lupin). Katniss is another one that I like. In fact, I noticed that a lot of District 12 characters had very nature-inspired names (Primrose, Gale, Katniss, etc).
I think Rossi rocks at this too! I liked that Aria coorelated to music and that was something she lovd, Roar's name coorelates to his special talent, and so on.

I'd also have to add Tiny Cooper from Will Grayson, Will Grayson to this list because of the irony of it.

  7. Katniss is a name I adore, not sure how I managed to leave it off my list! I had way more than ten so I just went with whatever popped into my head first. I like the name Aria, I like the spelling Arya from Game of Thrones though! Great list. My STS.

  8. Emmeline Vance from Harry Potter is a name that's always stuck with me for being pretty and unique. I also really love Eowyn from LOTR's.

  9. I do love Aria, though it reminds of me Aria from Pretty Little Liars (the tv show, I have never actually read that series). Penryn is very unique, I agree. When I read it I second guess myself on how to even pronounce it.

    Thanks for stopping by :)

  10. Rose Justice definitely has a certain ring to it!
So does Katniss Everdeen of course!
And high five; Addison is on my list too! (:
Awesome list & thanks for stopping by my TTT!
